Kim Kardashian and Eva Longoria are among a wave of celebrities publicly condemning recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Los Angeles and President Donald Trump’s decision to send in military forces to suppress protests.
Taking to Instagram, Kardashian wrote: “When we're told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals, great. But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up. We have to do what's right.”
She added: “Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city. They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers and family. Our communities thrive because of immigrants. We can't turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely. There has to be a better way.”
Longoria echoed the sentiment in a video posted on TikTok, describing mass deportations as “inhumane” and “un-American.”
“These round-ups are happening at birthday parties, at elementary school graduations, at Home Depot. Those are not criminals,” she said. “We need more compassion. Immigrants feed us, care for our families and support our communities. We can’t deny their humanity.”
The backlash follows Trump’s controversial decision to deploy thousands of National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles without permission from California Governor Gavin Newsom. The move came in response to protests sparked by immigration raids and broader concerns over civil rights.
At the BET Awards in downtown LA, rapper Doechii used her acceptance speech to draw attention to what she called “ruthless attacks” on communities.
“Trump is using military forces to stop a protest,” she said. “What kind of government do we have when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us?”
Actor Mark Ruffalo, known for playing the Hulk in Marvel films, described the situation as a manipulation tactic by those in power.
“You are pointing your guns in the wrong direction,” he wrote on Instagram. “Can’t you see we are being tricked to tear each other apart while they rake it in?”
Singer Demi Lovato also weighed in, calling the events “heartbreaking.” She urged followers to support immigrant communities and shared resources on social media. “While I feel powerless, I stand with those living in fear,” she said.
Others offered blunt critiques. Tyler, the Creator posted a simple message: “F*** ICE.” Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal shared a video celebrating the diversity of LA’s immigrant communities, captioned, “Los Angeles. Built by the best of U.S. Protect our protectors. Resist.”
Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen urged her followers to join nationwide protests on June 14, writing: “Donald Trump is NOT our king. Trump is acting like a king by defying the courts, issuing arbitrary decrees, and disregarding checks and balances.”
