JoJo Siwa has responded after pregnancy rumours swept TikTok in the wake of a much-theorised video of herself and her new boyfriend, Chris Hughes.
ICYMI, Siwa took the FYP by storm last month when she shared a clip of herself making a snack platter for Hughes, the fellow Celebrity Big Brother housemate whom she befriended and promptly dumped Kath Ebbs for earlier this year.
While the video seemed innocent enough, eagle-eyed fans took a brief hand movement made by Hughes during the clip as evidence that Siwa might be expecting, which at this rate would somehow leave me both absolutely gobsmacked and simultaneously unsurprised.
It’s Siwa, the inventor of gay pop herself, so we know to expect the unexpected.
Anyway, the moment that got TikTokers talking was when Hughes was seen embracing Siwa and cradling her stomach… which I guess is now universal code for ‘Dance Mom is about to be an actual mom’.
While the stomach rub lasted all of about two seconds, it was more than enough to send pregnancy rumours into overdrive, with scores of viewers flocking to the comments section to pose the theory that Siwa has a baby on the way.
Going a step further, some even theorised that Siwa’s platter was made to satisfy her pregnancy cravings, or took note of how she has supposedly been doing fewer high-energy dances and wearing loose-fitting clothes.
While all that chatter might have remained dormant in the dark corners of TikTok, it was given renewed life on Thursday, when Siwa herself addressed the rumours with a cryptic video.
“Couple of things that need to be addressed, so might as well do it with 2 truths and a lie,” Siwa captioned the clip, in which she flashes *those* Bette Davis eyes while in a swivel chair.
Siwa then provided three ‘facts’ about herself: she has never smoked a cigarette, she is pregnant, and she will release her now-infamous cover of Kim Carnes’s “Bette Davis Eyes” on Spotify later this week.
From there it was pretty much a guessing game in the comments, and I’d be remiss not to join in myself.
On one hand, Siwa’s raspy voice makes me inclined to believe she has punched a dart on at least one occasion, even though the image of her in a pub smoko feels… not quite right.
On the other hand, it seems entirely possible that a child star who pumped out intense dance choreo as a kid might not have ever partaken in a cigarette, lest she incur the wrath of Abby Lee Miller.
The other, possibly most plausible option is that Siwa is simply whipping up chatter to garner interest in her “Bette Davis Eyes” cover, which is either a genius marketing ploy or a diabolical manoeuvre from a woman with a knack for diabolic manoeuvres.
Whatever the case, check back in nine months, when we’re either welcoming a baby Siwa into the world or celebrating “Bette David Eyes” spending its umpteenth week on the Billboard Hot 100.
In this batshit timeline, either is possible.
