In a stunning reversal on his previous stance, President Donald Trump has called on his fellow Republicans in Congress to vote to release files pertaining to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump issued the statement days before the House is expected to vote on legislation that would require the Justice Department to release the Epstein files to the public.
“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide,” the president wrote on Truth Social earlier today. “It’s time to move on from this.”

As it stands, there appears to be enough supporters of the proposal and enough votes for it to pass the House, but it remains unclear whether it will pass the Senate.
Trump — who had long advocated against the broader release of the Epstein files and has described the fiasco as a “Democrat hoax” — made the startling turnaround after multiple Republicans, including staunch allies like Marjorie Taylor Greene, appeared willing to break ranks in support of the files’ release.
The BBC reports that as many as 100 Republicans will vote in favour of the bill, marking a clear stance from Trump’s own party on an issue that has also caused division even among loyal MAGA voters.
Known as the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the bill seeks to publicise all unclassified records, communications, and investigative materials relating to Epstein, on top of the scores of documents already released by the House Oversight Committee this year.
“The House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to, I DON’T CARE!,” Trump wrote in his Truth Social post.
It comes amid continued scrutiny placed on both Trump’s handling of the case and his own personal relationship with Epstein.
Last week, the Oversight Committee released multiple emails in which the disgraced financier and pedophile mentioned Trump, including one from 2011 in which he described the president as the “dog that hasn’t barked”.

In another email from 2019, Epstein told author Michael Wolff that Trump “knew about the girls”.
Trump dismissed the emails as the Democrats’ attempt to “deflect from their massive failures”, echoing a similar response he gave in September when reports emerged that he had signed a birthday card for Epstein back in 2003.
Over the weekend, Trump ordered the Justice Department to launch its own investigation into Epstein’s links to high-profile Democrats like Bill Clinton, but it’s unclear how that will factor into the House vote slated for this week.
Trump’s reversal on the files coincided with multiple Epstein survivors coming forward in a PSA video urging Congress to release all documents.
“It’s time to bring the secrets out of the shadows,” the victims — including Danielle Bensky and Annie Farmer — said in the emotional clip, which was produced by anti-trafficking organisation World Without Exploitation.
“It’s time to shine a light into the darkness.”
