Huge Edinburgh crowds flock to party on Princes Street with no social distancing

Huge Edinburgh crowds gathered in the centre of the Capital for an impromptu Bank Holiday weekend concert after city centre bars closed on Sunday evening.

Videos posted on TikTok show buskers surrounded by revellers in a boisterous rendition of The Killers classic Mr Brightside.

The spontaneous live performance attracted more than 100 people to join in with a buzzing crowd excited to emerge from months in lockdown - despite strict social distancing measures remaining in place across the country.

Pubs are still not allowed to host live musicians even after patrons were given the right to make their long-awaited return to drinking inside earlier this month.

One video posted on the social media platform shows a crowd bouncing around to the hit shortly after 10:30pm.

Locals spotted the party at the corner of Waverley Bridge, just outside the train station, and Princes Street.

It comes as Scotland recorded 526 new Covid cases over the past 24 hour period, with 3.2 per cent of tests returning positive results.

So far, 3,234,311 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination and 2,022,728 have received their second dose.

Most of mainland Scotland is due to move to Level 1 of the tier system on June 7.
