Former Justice Department Official Faces Disciplinary Hearing

The disciplinary hearing for former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark continued with testimonies shedding light on his unwavering belief in election irregularities despite efforts by superiors to convince him otherwise. Former acting Attorney General and another official met with Clark multiple times to dissuade him from pursuing allegations of voter fraud post the 2020 election. Clark drafted a letter suggesting the department investigate election irregularities, which Rosen and Donoghue found outside his purview. Despite their explanations, Clark persisted, even maintaining contact with then-President Trump.

Rosen and Donoghue granted Clark access to a classified briefing to dissuade him from giving poor advice to Trump, but Clark remained steadfast in his beliefs. The situation escalated when Trump considered replacing Rosen with Clark, prompting senior leaders to threaten resignation. Clark, called to testify, invoked several privileges, including the Fifth Amendment.

Clark faces criminal charges in Georgia for his role in attempting to overturn the election, with possible sanctions, including disbarment. His attorney argues that the disciplinary action could have a chilling effect on legal professionals. The case is set to resume with defense witnesses.
