Well what a PlayStation State of Play September 2025 showcase that was. After Sony promised over 35 minutes of updates from the biggest upcoming PS5 games for 2025 and beyond, it managed to deliver the big one we've all been waiting for - fresh info on Marvel's Wolverine.
We knew Saros was getting its first gameplay reveal, and it certainly didn't disappoint. PS5 State of Play live updates as they happened

Our PS5 State of Play coverage starts here
We are now just five hours away from the Sony State of Play September 2025 showcase. PlayStation has said precious little about what we are in for, although I am admittedly very excited about the promise of a first look at Saros – you know, the bound-to-be-awesome exclusive from Returnal developer Housemarque?
While we let the PS5 State of Play countdown run its course, we'll obviously be out there tracking all the latest rumors, leaks, and speculation. Did you hear the one about a big GTA 6 reveal? Yeah, me too, although there's a better chance of Uncharted becoming an Xbox exclusive tonight than there is of new Grand Theft Auto gameplay. That supposed leaked Nioh 3 release date on the other hand... well, now we might be talking.
Saros reveal trailer
It's been seven months since Housemarque dropped the first trailer for Saros. Honestly, it still gives me chills – what a stunning cinematic! And what's scary is that (if Returnal is anything to go by) Housemarque definitely has the talent to make this teaser concept a reality. Let's give that trailer another watch together, shall we?
One thing I am keen to better understand is how Saros is being positioned differently versus Returnal. When the upcoming 2026 release was announced, Housemarque went out of its way to that Saros was a roguelite not a roguelike due to its inclusion of "permanent resources and progression" which will apparently make "every death valuable." I think I get it.
Learn more about how Saros differs from Returnal here.

Here's the two shots from the Saros reveal trailer that I've been thinking about for the last seven months. Bring it on!
Nioh 3 release date leak

Of all the possible unconfirmed reveals set for today's PlayStation State of Play, Koei Tecmo revealing the official release date as February 6, 2026 feels all but certain. If you somehow missed it earlier, a couple of Amazon Japan retail listings (per Gematsu) indicated that's when the upcoming action RPG sequel will release.
Are early Amazon listings always accurate? No. But do early retailer listings regularly spoil upcoming reveals hours ahead of them actually being made? Yes. In other words, this one seems very likely.
Marathon unlikely to show

Bungie's delayed multiplayer PvP extraction shooter Marathon seems unlikely to make an appearance at today's PlayStation State of Play given the seeming mountain of work to do on it when it was delayed indefinitely back in June 2025.
With the long list to work on, it'd probably be a bad look for Bungie to pull back the curtain too soon. If we hear about Marathon at all, I would expect some kind of kick-the-can announcement indicating that we'll hear more in the future.
If Marathon were to show up here – and that's a big if – it feels like PlayStation would have made a much bigger deal out of it, right?
Even with all the caveats around its development and delay, it's hard to imagine leading with "an extended look at Saros, Housemarque's mysterious new title arriving next year" as the headline to hang the hat of the State of Play on. And that's coming from someone genuinely pretty stoked for Saros.

The real problem about speculating about what could potentially show up today if just how wide a net that PlayStation has cast. The initial announcement from PlayStation stating that we can look forward to "new looks at anticipated third-party and indie titles, plus updates from some of our teams at PlayStation Studios" really leaves the possibilities nearly endless.
And at around 35 minutes, with at least five of that being Saros gameplay, who knows what could possibly show up. It seems likely what we might hear one last time from Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei before it releases next week, however.
Less than an hour to go now! Still plenty of time to get comfortable – grab some food, get a good drink, and brace yourself for... whatever it is that PlayStation has up its sleeve.
Do you have any last-minute predictions yourself? As always, my go-to wish would be some kind of Valkyria Chronicles remaster. Dare I dream for the actual reveal of the long-rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake? Or something even wilder?

Less than 30 minutes remaining, and I am left wondering: what if we do get something truly substantial from PlayStation Studios that isn't Saros or Ghost of Yotei? I'd certainly love to hear more about what's going on with Insomniac Games and Marvel's Wolverine, for example. We've basically not heard anything officially about the game in years at this point.
With just 15 minutes to go, the countdown is on to the PlayStation State of Play, and it's Sam Loveridge here taking over for the event itself! I'll hopefully do you all proud
As a reminder, this event is focused on PlayStation sharing "new looks at anticipated third-party and indie titles, plus updates from some of our teams at PlayStation Studios – including an extended look at Saros, Housemarque’s mysterious new title arriving next year. Look forward to nearly five minutes of gameplay captured on PS5."
It's just wide enough that we could have some big reveals on our hands!
The big question is... will there be a countdown after the countdown
Okay let's go!
Saros up first then?
There's a lot of fire and dragons, which wasn't exactly what I was expecting from Saros.
It builds on the action of Returnal's combat and tells a thrilling and emotional story.
There's a Soltari shield that lets you absorb and reflect projectiles
Power weapons are powered by the adaptive triggers and can be used to devastating effect
You can find Soltari holologs to discover more about what happened before.
Running on PS5, this is is looking very slick - as you'd expect after Returnal. Rahul Kohli starring of course.
We've also got a Second Chance mechanic that saves you from death and makes you a little bit stronger.
"Next year is when you'll be able to play Saros". More to come in the coming months.
