Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah had US President Donald Trump threatening a lawsuit over his Epstein Island joke during the event on Sunday. The POTUS called the comedian "talentless" while also calling the ceremony "unwatchable."
The moment began as Billie Eilish commented on the current unrest in the country with a bold statement saying, "No one is illegal on stolen land" while accepting her award for Song of the Year for 'Wildflower'. Next, Noah took the stage claiming: “That is a Grammy that every artist wants... almost as much as Trump wants Greenland.”
“Which makes sense, I mean, because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton, so...” he added.
Noah, who has been hosting the awards since 2021, marked his last year of hosting this time and was quick to remind the audience that his joke could have no repercussions. “I told you it’s my last year! What are you gonna do about it?” he asked.
Donald Trump fumes at Trevor Noah
Trump, 79, soon exploded on Noah comparing him to another nemesis host of his, Jimmy Kimmel. He began with trolling the awards writing, “The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer.”
“The host, Trevor Noah, whoever he may be, is almost as bad as Jimmy Kimmel at the Low Ratings Academy Awards,” he wrote on Truth Social early Monday morning.
Clarifying that he had never been to Epstein Island, he also called the South African comedian a "total loser" and threatened a suit against him. “Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!! I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory, statement, have never been accused being there, not even by the Fake News Media.”
“Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast,” Trump added, before threatening, “It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$. Ask Little George Slopadopolus, and others, how that all worked out. Also, ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!”
Trevor Noah's anti-Trump comments
Along with attacking the President's involvement in Epstein files and his obsession with acquiring Greenland, Noah also commented on his newfound friendship with Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj.
“Nicki Minaj is not here. She is not here,” Noah said, which prompted loud cheers from attendees. “She is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues.”
Then he broke into a surprising impression of Trump saying, “Actually Nicki, I have the biggest a--. I have it. Everybody’s saying it Nicki, I know they say it’s you but it’s me. Wap, wap, wap, look at it baby.”
These comments also prompted an attack on the former The Daily Show host from White House Communications Director Steven Cheung who called him "a giant loser who will be forever known for being unceremoniously kicked off The Daily Show for being a complete psychopath..." in an X post.
The Grammy Awards are one of the most important moments in the lives of music artists. From singers to songwriters, the event includes nominations and winners in a series of categories that award music's most coveted honour. 2026 marked some of the most well-known names in the industry being recognised such as Billie Eilish along with some unexpected artists getting their firsts, including the Dalai Lama.
