Donald Trump attacks Sadiq Khan and London with 'Sharia Law' claim

DONALD Trump has falsely claimed that London wants to “go to Sharia Law”.

During an address to the United Nations General Assembly, the Republican leader claimed that the UN was “funding an assault on Western countries and their borders”.

He said: “Europe is in serious trouble. They have been invaded by a force of illegal aliens like nobody’s ever seen before.”

In an attack on Sadiq Khan he continued: “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been changed, it’s been so changed."

“Now they want to go to Sharia Law. But you are in a different country, you can’t do that.

“Both the immigration and their suicidal energy ideas will be the death of Western Europe if something isn’t done immediately. This cannot be sustained.”

His comments come after an unprecedented second state visit to the UK, after which he criticised London mayor Khan.

Whilst travelling back to the US, Trump reportedly dubbed Khan as being “amongst the worst mayors in the world” and claimed he ensured Khan was not given an invite to a state banquet hosted at Windsor Castle.

There is no evidence that Sharia Law – a set of guiding moral principles within the religion of Islam – has been implemented in London or anywhere else in the UK.

Sadiq Khan’s office said it would not “dignify” Donald Trump’s “appalling and bigoted comments” by responding to them.

A spokesperson for the London Mayor said: “We are not going to dignify his appalling and bigoted comments with a response.

“London is the greatest city in the world, safer than major US cities, and we’re delighted to welcome the record number of US citizens moving here.”

In response, Health Secretary Wes Streeting said that Khan is not “trying to impose Sharia Law on London”.

In a post on Twitter/X, Streeting said: “@SadiqKhan is not trying to impose sharia law on London.

“This is a mayor who marches with Pride, who stands up for difference of background and opinion, who’s focused on improving our transport, our air, our streets, our safety, our choices and chances.

“Proud he’s our mayor.”

Trump later went on to criticise the move away from North Sea oil as Scotland and the UK push towards achieving net zero.

"“They’ve given up their powerful edge, a lot of the countries that we’re talking about, in oil and gas, such as essentially closing the great North Sea oil.

“Oh, the North Sea. I know it so well.

Aberdeen was the oil capital of Europe and there’s tremendous oil that hasn’t been found in the North Sea – tremendous oil.

“And I was with the Prime Minister (Keir Starmer) – I respect and like a lot – and I said, ‘you’re sitting with the greatest asset’.

“They essentially closed it by making it so highly-taxed that no developer, no oil company, can go there.

“They have tremendous oil left and, more importantly, they have tremendous oil that hasn’t even been found yet. And what a tremendous asset for the United Kingdom, and I hope the Prime Minister’s listening because I told it to him three days in a row – that’s all he heard.

“‘North Sea oil, North Sea’.”

Trump also continued his ongoing criticism of wind power, adding: “I want to stop seeing them ruining that beautiful Scottish and English countryside with windmills and massive solar panels that go seven miles by seven miles, taking away farmland.

“But we’re not letting this happen in America.”
