A Mississippi man has been cleared of all charges after a hit-and-run last year resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy. Cody Rollinson was acquitted on January 15th but people are calling for justice for the young boy and his family, especially after a video went viral which appears to show Rollinson spitting at the grieving family.
Jordan Hill was knocked down by a vehicle in Liberty, Mississippi on April 6th, 2025. Sadly he had already passed away by the time police arrived on the scene. The vehicle that struck him was nowhere to be seen. Rollinson claimed he had left the scene as he did not have cell reception on his phone to call 911 as per Blavity News. He would later return to the scene to collect a wing mirror which had broken off of his truck.
Rollinson was arrested later that day and according to reports, had been intoxicated and on a facetime call while driving. He was charged with aggravated DUI and felony leaving the scene of an accident according to The Daily Reader.
Cody Rollinson found ‘not guilty’
Ultimately the jury came back with a verdict of not guilty for Rollinson, which appalled the mother of Jordan Hill, “I was shocked because you have all this evidence — evidence, facts — and it still was found not guilty.”
People demanded justice for Jordan, and those cries only intensified after a video appeared to show Rollinson spitting at the family and those showing support for the young boy.

Footage shows Rollinson being escorted through the Amite County Courthouse parking lot, on his way to the trial, when protesters begin berating him and labeling him a “racist.” He then appears to spit, and the woman recording can be heard saying, “Oh you spit? Yeah, I’mma see who gonna spit on you when you go to jail.”
After he was acquitted the video went viral online. For many it shows a complete lack of remorse on Rollinson’s behalf and those feelings of injustice have only been made worse by his acquittal.
On X one person lamented the fact that Rollinson should walk free despite the overwhelming evidence against him, they accused the Mississippi justice system of choosing “intentionally to turn a blind eye.” Another claimed that they weren’t surprised by the verdict considering it was, in their words, “a small racist a** town in Mississippi.”
Jordan Hill’s mother claims that she still has faith in the justice system but claims that it failed here and it seems many online would tend to agree. Several petitions demanding justice for Jordan Hill have already been set up online.
