Dead animal in Reflecting Pool as Trump’s renovation crumbles

  • A duckling was found dead in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool , which has been experiencing issues with algae and peeling sealant following a $14.7 million renovation ordered by Donald Trump .
  • Days after the renovation's completion on 6 June, the pool's blue bottom was obscured by green algae and the sealant began peeling off, despite Donald Trump taking credit for selecting the 'American flag blue' sealant.
  • Cleaning efforts included pouring extra-strength hydrogen peroxide into the water and workers physically removing algae, with the Interior Department also employing “nanobubble ozone technology”.
  • Donald Trump claimed the pool's poor condition was due to vandalism, stating that repairs would begin “immediately” and threatening severe prosecution for those responsible.
  • Olympic canoeist David Hearn was arrested for alleged vandalism, though he denied causing any damage, while U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro vowed aggressive prosecution for anyone damaging the attraction.
