Chuck Schumer Slams Trump's Iran War Strategy, Says Trump Has 'No Plan and No Exit Strategy' as Military Campaign Enters Day 136

Washington,dc,,United,States,,April,14,2025,,President,Donald,J,Trump

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) criticized President Donald Trumps handling of the Iran conflict, arguing that the prolonged military campaign lacks a clear objective, has put U.S. troops at risk and increased economic pressure on American families.

Schumer Slams Trump’s Iran War Strategy

On Tuesday, Schumer took to X to accuse Trump of failing to develop a strategy for ending the conflict, saying the administration entered the war without a clear path forward.

"Trump has no clue what he’s doing in Iran, and it’s a recipe for utter disaster," he wrote.

He added, "He had no plan and no exit strategy on day 1 of this reckless war. We’re on day 136, and nothing has changed."

The Democratic leader also criticized Trump for not following congressional efforts aimed at ending U.S. involvement.

"Bipartisan majorities in Congress passed legislation to end this war that Trump is ignoring," Schumer said.

He argued that continued military operations were placing American troops in danger while adding financial pressure on households.

"Our service members are in harm’s way. Working families are forking over a fortune for gas and groceries," Schumer wrote.

He concluded, "End this war once and for all."

Democrats Slam Trump Over Iran Conflict

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said the conflict has added billions in costs for Americans, including an estimated $56 billion increase in gas spending, while arguing that Trump has failed to bring the war to an end.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) criticized any potential expansion near the Strait of Hormuz, calling it reckless and warning of higher prices and further risks to U.S. troops.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said previous administrations avoided war with Iran because of the potential for chaos, economic damage and loss of life, accusing Trump of ignoring those consequences.

Trump, Iran Clash Over Strait Of Hormuz

President Trump said U.S. strikes on Iran would continue, warning of further attacks if Tehran refused to negotiate.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected Trump’s proposed 20% Strait of Hormuz cargo fee, arguing that Iran was the rightful guardian of the strategic waterway.
