'Building castles in the air': Iran mocks Trump’s 'will get free oil, free Hormuz' claim amid deadlock

Iran mocked US President Donald Trump’s claims of a breakthrough in ongoing negotiations, dismissing it as “building castles in the air".

Iran state media IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) shared a video of Trump saying, “I think we have a very successful negotiation going on right now." “If it happens, it'll be announced fairly soon, and that'll give us free oil, free Hormuz Strait, everything will be nice," the US president can be heard saying further.

Mocking the remarks, the media channel shared a poetic message saying, "Building castles in the air! Or in Persian we have a similar proverb: 'The camel dreams of cottonseed; sometimes gulping it down, sometimes eating it grain by grain!'"

The saying basically refers to 'unrealistic or far-fetched hopes'.

This comes as Iran and US remain under a fragile ceasefire, even though peace talks, held in Pakistan, failed. In latest claims, Trump has said that Iran is ready to hand over their Uranium, a key flashpoint of the conflict. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, "We're very close to making a deal with Iran." "We had to make sure that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon... They've totally agreed to that. They've agreed to almost everything, so maybe if they can get to the table, there's a difference," he added.

Referring to the uranium stockpile, Trump said, “They’ve agreed to give us back the nuclear dust,” a term he uses for enriched uranium that the US says could be used to build nuclear weapons.
