BRIEF: District 60 investigates 'potentially illegal' behavior at preschool

Nov. 02--An employee at a Waukegan preschool accused of "inappropriate and potentially illegal" behavior was removed from the school while district officials and police investigate the allegations, Community Unit School District 60 officials said in a letter sent to parents.

According to the letter dated Oct. 26, an employee at the Lightfoot Early Learning Center in Waukegan reported seeing a colleague "behaving in an inappropriate and potentially illegal manner in the presence of a student."

Waukegan police Cmdr. Joe Florip said officers did look into the incident and as of Monday no charges had been filed.

He declined to comment further, saying it was "being handled as a District 60 internal issue."

District 60 spokesman Nick Alajakis said the district's investigation was still ongoing and no final decisions have been made.

In the letter to parents, district officials said they had not yet confirmed the allegations and could not comment on specifics in the middle of the investigation.

"As this incident plays out, please be advised that our staff will work diligently to assure that your child's privacy and safety remain a top priority," district officials said.
