Algeria Launches Tender to Purchase Milling Wheat

Algeria’s state grains agency OAIC has issued an international tender to buy milling wheat to be sourced from optional origins, European traders said on Monday.

The tender sought a nominal 50,000 tons, but Algeria often buys considerably more in its tenders than the nominal volume sought, said Reuters.

The tender deadline is believed to be October 22, traders said.

The wheat was sought for shipment in two periods, December 1-15 and December 16-31. If sourced from South Africa, shipment is between November 1-15 and November 16-30.

In its last reported tender on September 18, the OAIC bought up to 600,000 tons of wheat for shipment in November 1-15 and November 16-30, with Algeria causing concern among wheat exporters by apparently skipping October imports.
