Today's race meeting follows yesterday's Ladies Day which is often known as the most stylish day as its when Aintree holds its annual Style Award competition.

This year's winner was 54-year-old Sue Moon, who entered the competition after being persuaded by her husband.

Speaking to the ECHO immediately after winning, she said: "Never in a million years [did she expect to win].

"He forced me, he said you have to enter it so I thought alright then, go on I will.  When I went into the shop because I always go to the same shop, I didn't have anything in my mind when I just went in.

"But she always brings me loads of dresses out and she brought this out and I just thought that's it. It's where the shoes and the bag are from too."

Hundreds of men and women spent the first part of their racing day queuing to get their pictures taken, so their outfits could be assessed by the judging panel.
