A regional Victorian man's murder charge has been dropped. (AAP)

A Victorian man originally accused of murdering an 80-year-old man remains on bail after pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

Glen Stratton, 53, on Wednesday faced Bendigo Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the suicide of the older man at Castlemaine in May.

His murder charge was dropped.

The court previously heard Stratton was coeliac, had a blood disorder and took medication.

He will face a directions hearing at the Victorian Supreme Court on October 27.
