16-year-old Johnny, from the Spur Hill area of Cork city, was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor

The crash took place in the early hours of this morning

The 16-year-old, named locally as Johnny Foley, was one of five teens in the car when the accident happened on the M8 near Mitchelstown in Cork at around 1am

The matter has been referred to GSOC as one of the cars involved interacted with gardai before the incident.

A male driver, aged in his late 30s, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged

The road remains closed this morning with local diversions in place as forensic collision investigators conduct an examination of the scene
