Three early January national polls have Labor sliding to between 52–53% two party preferred against the Coalition, down from around 55% to Labor before Anika Wells’ expenses scandal and Bondi. These polls are the worst for Labor since they unexpectedly won the May 2025 federal election in a landslide.

Despite fallout from the expenses scandal and Bondi, Labor still holds a 54–46 lead in Resolve, but Anthony Albanese’s ratings have slumped. Newspoll analysis has One Nation’s surge concentrated with voters of lower educational attainment.

One Nation surges to a new record 18% in a federal Redbridge poll as the Coalition falls to 24%, but Labor dominates with 38%. In Victoria, the final poll of Brad Battin’s Liberal leadership had the Coalition narrowly ahead.

Labor has a blowout lead in South Australia, with the election in March 2026. The federal party has also expanded its lead in a Morgan poll.
