Woman, 20, fighting for life after being mugged near KFC in Birmingham

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital with head injuries after a street mugging.

Police were called to reports of a woman found collapsed in Birmingham city centre just before 9:40pm last night.

Cordons remain in place across the city as forensic teams search the area near Bull Street.

The incident is believed to have taken place close to a KFC in the Dale End area which has been hit by a series of violent incidents in recent months.

It was the scene of a triple stabbing in October of last year.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “A 20-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. She remains in hospital in a critical condition.

“It is thought her handbag was stolen during the incident and an investigation is underway to determine what happened and find those responsible.”

One local told BirminghamLive: “Honestly this area is getting worse. I’d never come here at night but during the day it’s alright cos there are loads of people around.
