West Ham Women expect 20,000 at London Stadium for Tottenham clash

West Ham expect a crowd of around 20,000 for their Women’s Super League match against Tottenham at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The turnout for the derby between could be the third-largest in WSL history. West Ham Women are playing at the London Stadium for the first time as they look to build on the success of reaching the FA Cup Final last season and capitalise on the increased popularity in the women’s game after England reached the World Cup semi-finals in the summer.

Tickets are priced at £2 for adults, £1 for season-ticket holders and Claret Members, with free entry for Under-16s.

West Ham Women managing director Jack Sullivan said: “It will be a really amazing occasion for us. They are the sort of numbers we are hoping for, which will fill the lower bowl and just a bit above that as well.

“We have either sold, or given away to local community groups and schools, just under 20,000 tickets. I think we'll get maybe just over 20,000 there, and considering we only had five weeks to sell it, we're pretty happy with that number.

“It is an exciting week off the back of the men's team beating Manchester United as well, so hopefully there is a feel-good factor around the club and we can kick on with those numbers.”

A record WSL crowd of 31,213 watched Manchester City play Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on the opening weekend of the WSL season earlier this month, while 24,564 turned out to see Chelsea and Tottenham at Stamford Bridge the same weekend.
