Watford bid for Matty Longstaff is turned down - as Idrissa Gueye is linked with Newcastle

Matty Longstaff is wanted on loan by Sky Bet Championship promotion-chasers Watford.

The midfielder was subject of loan interest from the Vicarage Road side on Sunday but their initial approach was dismissed by the Magpies.

Watford also asked about Sean Longstaff but the former North Shields Athletic junior does not want to leave Newcastle on deadline day.

The Hornets are eager to bring in a central midfielder with Leicester City trying to sign their former Chelsea man Nathaniel Chalobah.

Were Brendan Rodgers to land Chalobah, it would open up the door for Hamza Choudhury to leave the King Power Stadium on loan with Steve Bruce keen on the player.

Rodgers said yesterday: "Our idea is to get a midfield player. If we can do that, then great.

"I clearly know Nathaniel from my time working with him at Chelsea, but I know lots of players and there are a number of players that we're looking at."

Reports in France this morning have suggested that former Everton star Idrissa Gueye, now with Paris St-Germain, has turned down a move to Tyneside.
