Timperley South and Hale have become Trafford’s latest covid hotspots.
In the seven-day period ending December 7, the borough had a total number of 1,359 covid-19 cases confirmed, up 273 individual cases, or 25.1 per cent, on the previous week.
Timperley South has the highest rate in Trafford by far - with 1,198.7 cases per 100,000 population and 92 new infections confirmed in the week ending December 7.
That’s an increase of 45 new cases compared to the week before, or a 95.7 per cent increase – almost doubling.
Hale has the next highest rate across the borough, with 804.4 cases per 100,000 people and 68 new cases – up 20 from the week before, or a 41.7 per cent increase.
Public health bosses in Trafford confirmed that, as of Friday (December 10), there were three cases of the new omicron variant – thought to be more infectious than previous incarnation of coronavirus – in the borough.
Trafford’s infection rate currently stands at 572.0 cases per 100,000 population.

The borough’s lowest rate is in previous hotspot Old Trafford, with a rate of 234.9 cases per 100,000 people and just 27 cases, down 17 cases from the week before.
Besides that, cases are spread across the borough with no particular concentration of cases outside of Timperley South and Hale.
That said, only three areas of the borough have an infection rate of below 400 cases per 100,000 people.
