Two men arrested after drug driver reverses with brave garda hanging out of car along Dublin street

This is the horrifying moment a Garda was injured as he bravely tried to stop a crazed drug driver.

The horror incident happened on St Luke’s Avenue, Dublin 8 at 11.45pm on Wednesday night when the officer jumped into the motor.

He ended up half inside the vehicle as the maniac driver reversed at speed - with his  legs dangling out of the front passenger window.

Our footage shows the moment his colleagues also tried to stop the car, chasing it on foot as it reversed away.

Sources said dozens of officers flooded the streets in the high speed chase in the south inner city.

A Garda spokesman confirmed that two men were later arrested as the chase came to an end.

He said: “Two males (one in their late 20s and one in their early 30s) were arrested following an incident that occurred at approximately 11.45pm on Wednesday at St Luke’s Avenue, Dublin 8.

“After failing to stop for Gardaí, a pursuit took place from Cuffe Street to St Luke’s Avenue where a Garda member was injured when the vehicle reversed as he approached.

“After assistance from the Garda Air Support Unit, the two males were arrested and were detained at Kevin Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“The Garda member received minor injuries and was taken to St James’ Hospital, where he was later released.

“A search of the prisoners also yielded a small quantity of suspected ecstasy tablets, suspected MDMA and drug paraphernalia. Investigations are ongoing."
