Two enormous Navy warships arrive at cruise terminal in spectacular sight

Two Navy warships were spotted on Liverpool's waterfront today in a spectacular sight.

These pictures show The Royal Canadian Navy's HMCS Halifax and the Royal Danish Navy's HDMS Absalon at the Cruise Liner Terminal earlier this afternoon.

It is understood the ships are on their way to a Nato Exercise, Joint Warrior.

According to the Royal Navy, the exercise involves 16 warships and brings together vessels from all over the World.

Joint Warrior takes place in the spring and autumn each year, spanning the course of two weeks.

The Royal Navy said: "Exercise Joint Warrior is the largest military exercise in Europe, bringing together the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force and the British Army, as well as forces from other nations.

"Taking place over two weeks, Joint Warrior includes airborne assaults, amphibious landings, evacuations and live-fire exercises.

"The exercise runs through a range of scenarios, including crisis and conflict situations, that could be realistically encountered in operations, such as territory disputes, terrorist activity and piracy."

Stunning pictures today showed the warships arriving, as their silhouettes dominated the skyline.

The Royal Navy added: "The exercise doesn’t only allow participating units to hone their specialist roles within a larger war-style setting – it also helps foster vital links between the UK, NATO and other allied militaries."
