Traffic queues for over an hour on Edinburgh City Bypass after crash on A720

There are queues for over an hour on the M8 motorway following an earlier road traffic collision near Edinburgh, as emergency services arrive at the scene.

Traffic Scotland updated their page at around 7:20am this morning, stating that there had been a road traffic collision that had caused a lane blockage on the busy junction next to Hermiston Gait.

In a tweet from their official Twitter account, Traffic Scotland posted: "One lane is blocked on the #A720 E/B between Calder and Baberton following an earlier RTC.

"Police and TRISS are on the way to the scene."

BBC Travel Scotland also updated on this incident, stating: "#A720 #Edinburgh Bypass - RTC e/b Calder & Baberton traffic at a standstill."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a crash on the A720 eastbound near the Calder Junction around 7.05am on Thursday, 2 December.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene."

The busy junction is now showing as a red for traffic build-up. (Traffic Scotland)

Traffic Scotland have posted another update regarding this incident, stating: "UPDATE 07:32 #M8 #A720.

"Slow moving traffic on the #M8 E/B towards Hermiston Gait and the bypass due to an RTC on the bypass between Calder and Baberton.

"There's currently a travel time of 30 minutes in the area!"

There has been a further update from Traffic Scotland on this crash, reading: "UPDATE 08:15 #A720 #M8 #M9.

"Traffic is still heavy heading east on the #A720 and the #M8 due to one lane being blocked on the bypass following an earlier RTC between Calder and Baberton.

"There's a travel time of 1 hour and 30 minutes in the area!"
