Tottenham transfer headlines as Milan Skriniar alternative found and deadline day business

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur transfer headlines for Monday, 5 October.

Spurs eye Jesus as Skriniar alternative

Tottenham are weighing up a possible move for Roma defender Juan Jesus as an alternative to Milan Skriniar, according to The Transfer Window Podcast.

Spurs have been linked with Inter centre-back Skriniar for a number of weeks, but it looks unlikely that the Slovakia international will leave Italy after starting for his club on Sunday night. The two clubs remain far apart in their valuation of Skriniar.

Jesus, 29, could be available for around €8million (£7.25m) although, speaking on the podcast, journalist Duncan Castles believes the Brazilian would not be Jose Mourinho’s first-choice.

“One other option that’s being floated as a possibility for a centre-back at Tottenham is the Roma former Brazilian international, Juan Jesus, who Roma want around €8m for,” said Castles.

“I don’t think that will be the preferred choice of the manager.”

Levy’s deadline day to-do list

Moving first-team players out the door will be the main priority for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on deadline day, as explained by football.london Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold.

Ryan Sessegnon is expected to join Hoffenheim on loan although there will be no option to buy as Spurs have high hopes for the 20-year-old, while Levy must find a suitor for Danny Rose, who has only eight months left on his contract.

The club also will not stand in Paulo Gazzaniga’s way should he decide to move now that he is the third-choice keeper behind Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart.

Levy will also attempt to loan out some youngsters while signing a centre-back is the sole task remaining regarding new arrivals.

Spurs remain interested in Skriniar, although they are unlikely to prise Merih Demiral away from Juventus, while a deal for Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger would be complicated on a number of levels.

Four exits Levy may sanction

As mentioned above, there may be more than one player leaving Spurs on deadline day.

As detailed by football.london’s Rob Guest, Gazzaniga may move on to pastures new, while Cameron Carter-Vickers needs to secure a permanent move away having failed to crack the first-team.

Carter-Vickers has had five loan spells away from Spurs in the last three years after making four senior appearances during the 2016/17 season.

Danny Rose and Jack Clarke are the other two players circling the exit door.

Rose needs to leave to revive his England ambitions, whereas Clarke is likely to depart on loan after two difficult spells at Leeds United and QPR last season.
