Titans’ A.J. Brown says Terrell Owens comparison is ‘disrespectful’

Nobody can ever say that Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown isn’t humble.

On Monday, Pro Football Focus’ Eric Eager flat-out said that “A.J. Brown is Terrell Owens,” a comparison we’ve heard before because of the physicality Brown plays with, just like Owens did in his heyday.

Now, there is nothing wrong with that comparison considering it’s pretty accurate for the most part (Owens’ past antics aside), and it should be flattering with Owens being a Hall of Famer.

However, Brown doesn’t exactly see it that way. In response to Eager’s statement, the second-year pro tweeted, “AJ Brown is AJ Brown.”

Brown went into more detail soon after that, making it clear that it’s a respect factor he has for the NFL great. The Ole Miss product says a comparison to the Hall of Famer this early in his career is “disrespectful.”

Owens took to Twitter to respond, and it’s clear there’s nothing but love coming from him:

While Brown still has a long way to go in his career, so far the early returns have been staggering.

After passing 1,000 yards and finishing with nine total touchdowns in his rookie campaign, Brown has a chance to break that yardage total again in 2020, and he has already surpassed his career-high receiving and total touchdown mark.

Brown, who sits with 837 yards on the season, needs to average 54.4 receiving yards per game over the final three contests to reach 1,000 — and bear in mind he missed two games this season due to a knee injury.

If his career continues on this kind of trajectory, people will be comparing other receivers to Brown one day.
