Tiger Woods wins lucky punter £1MILLION after securing victory at The Masters 2019

The remarkable comeback of Tiger Woods has secured a lucky punter £1MILLION.

An American punter placed £65,000 on Woods to win The Masters at the price of 14/1 with William Hill US ahead of this year's competition.

The bet is the largest pay-out for a golf bet in the company's history, according to ESPN's David Purdum, who documented the bet ahead of Augusta this year.

Woods defied the odds to pull clear of his rivals on the final few holes at The Masters.

His perfectly-timed birdies on holes 15 and 16 led the way to victory, which resulted in an outpouring of emotion with his family on the side of the green.

Woods was one of the pre-tournament favourites with bookmakers pricing his chances at about 14/1.

And the bet on Woods was going to return just under £1million for the lucky gambler, who clearly fancied their chances on Woods.

Just Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose were shorter odds heading into the competition.

Following the win, Woods said: "It's overwhelming, I think because of what has transpired.

"Last year I was just very lucky to be playing again.

"The previous champions' dinner I was really struggling.

"I missed a couple of years of playing this great tournament, now to be winning it.

"It's unreal to experience this.

"My mom was here, she was here in 1997 as well, and she couldn't be more excited.

"I'm kind of lost for words to be honest with you.

"This is one of the hardest I've ever had to win, I think just because of what has transpired.

"I've had a chance the last two major championships, I applied what I learnt and managed to get there today."
