Three rescued from High rise fire as one is taken to hospital

A fire at a high rise hotel is now "under control" and three people were rescued thanks to the courageous work of Dublin Fire Brigade.

A massive smoke cloud emerged from the site of the blaze at the Glashaus Hotel at Belgard square in Tallaght.

Luas services between Tallaght and Belgard had been suspended because of the incident but have since resumed.

Emergency services - including eight fire units - rushed to the scene of the blaze this afternoon to secure the area and subdue the flames.

Dublin Fire Brigade posted on social media that the blaze was now "under control" and a number of units had been stood down.

They said: "The high rise fire in Tallaght is now under control. We've scaled back the number of units on scene. Three people were rescued using a turntable ladder. Three people were led to safety.

"We remain on scene damping down hotspots".

Earlier on, Ruth Abbott, who was an eye witness of the fire, told Dublin Live that the flames appeared to be "spreading".

She said: "It looks like it is actually spreading to the next building again. I can see flames but I can't tell if they are coming through a window or if it has spread to the next building."

"I was looking out the window and it all just went poof upwards. People started evacuating out along the Luas stop."

A spokesperson for the Gardai said: "All persons were evacuated from the building without incident. One person was taken to Tallaght University Hospital as a precaution."
