The Pelicans sat Anthony Davis against the Lakers and fans made the same joke

After toying with the Lakers prior to the trade deadline and then firing their GM, the Pelicans now face the awkward situation of managing Anthony Davis for the rest of the season when the organization would benefit most by shutting him down entirely. NBA rules require Davis to remain active if healthy – but it appears the Pelicans will try to minimize the risk to their most prized asset by playing him as sparingly as possible.

After Davis played just 20 minutes in a road loss to Indiana, the Pelicans chose to “rest” their superstar on Saturday with the Lakers in town. Many NBA fans blasted the team for sitting Davis, while others all made the same joke about Davis “helping out his future team.”

Jahlil Okafor filled in for Davis in the starting lineup, and the Pelicans hung 42 points on the Lakers in the first quarter.
