The late deadline day transfer Tottenham failed to complete as Harry Kane injury boost revealed

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Thursday, February 4.

Mourinho issues Kane boost

Ahead of this evening's clash between Spurs and Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, head coach Jose Mourinho has issued an encouraging update on the fitness of striker Harry Kane.

The England captain was forced off during last Thursday evening's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool with ankle injuries and appeared as though he was set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However, although tonight's game will come too soon for him to make a return, Mourinho is optimistic that he could be back in the fold by next week, meaning he could feature in the FA Cup clash with Everton next Wednesday evening at Goodison Park.

Mourinho said: "Good progress, he's happy with the progress and of course we're happy too. I think it's not a very optimistic thing to say next week he should be playing, it will be just a consequence of his good evolution.

"So we're happy. We were scared when it happened but next week we play Everton and City at the weekend. I believe for one of these matches he should be back."

Alli handed Spurs lifeline

Dele Alli still has the chance to make a name for himself at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium between now and the end of the season, despite being keen on joining Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.

That is according to Mourinho, who has confirmed that he has spoken to the attacking-midfielder about his future since the window closed for business on Monday evening.

Alli has struggled for opportunities in north London this season, sparking his desire to try and link-up with Mauricio Pochettino once again in Paris.

Addressing Alli's future, Mourinho explained: "He needs to recover form his injury, return to training and have a fresh start. Because last week he couldn't even train – so that's the most important thing.

"I had a good conversation with him yesterday (Tuesday), we spoke around this question that you asked me and I think we found very common ground.

"It's an important period of the season for the team and for him also. We need him. We need a good Dele Alli.
"We are just waiting for him to be back to a good normality."

Spurs missed out on late transfer deal

Tottenham attempted to bolster their central defensive-options in the latter stages of the transfer window with the signing of Real Madrid man Eder Militao.

That is according to Italian sports journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who made the claim on the 'Here we Go Podcast.'

Spurs were desperate to add a big-name centre-back to their ranks back in the summer, expressing a keen interest in Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan. In the end, Inter's demands proved to be too great, meaning Spurs landed Swansea City man Joe Rodon instead.

However, Spurs continued to pursue a big-name central-defender last month, with Brazilian Militao having been highlighted as a target.

Despite launching a late loan over, Spurs proved unsuccessful in their efforts, meaning Mourinho will be forced to revisit his desire to sign another central-defender in the summer.
