The government's "Thais Help Thais" programme has generated more than 110.89 million baht in spending while cutting household expenses by over 24.51 million baht, as authorities press ahead with efforts to stimulate grassroots economic activity nationwide.
Narucha Kosacivilize, director-general of the Department of Provincial Administration (DoPA), said on Saturday that the initiative, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is aimed at easing living costs while strengthening local economies through wider access to affordable essential goods.
The programme is being implemented through cooperation between the DoPA, the Department of Business Development, modern wholesale and retail chains, local entrepreneurs and mobile vendors.
Low-cost product sales are being held every Friday across all 878 districts nationwide to expand access to reasonably priced goods while improving liquidity for community shops, SMEs and One Tambon One Product businesses.
The top five districts with the highest spending were Mueang Chon Buri in Chon Buri province, Mueang Saraburi in Saraburi, Mueang Yala in Yala, Mueang Ratchaburi in Ratchaburi and Kaeng Khoi district in Saraburi.
Cumulative spending since the programme kicked off on May 1 exceeded 110.89 million baht, while total savings for the public surpassed 24.51 million baht.
Mr Narucha said the programme would continue every Friday at district offices nationwide, helping people access quality goods at affordable prices, reduce household expenses and sustain grassroots economic circulation across communities.
Meanwhile, the government is preparing to launch the "Thais Help Thais Plus: 60/40" co-payment scheme, with merchant registration opening on Monday.
Deputy government spokeswoman Lalida Pherdwiwatthana said consumer spending at participating shops will run from June 1 to Sept 30, while purchases through food delivery platforms will be available from June 15 to Sept 30.
Ms Lalida said the scheme would help circulate funds more widely in local communities and expand business opportunities for small retailers nationwide.
