It’s hard to say whether or not Alex Smith was better than Kyle Allen would have been against the Giants on Sunday, but Smith was pretty good despite a few back-breaking mistakes that he made down the stretch. Other than his three interceptions, Smith went 24-for-32 with 325 yards and a touchdown, his first score in two years.
The player on the receiving end of that touchdown was Terry McLaurin, who had an outstanding game with 7 catches on 7 targets for 115 yards and a touchdown. After the game, McLaurin said that he was impressed with Smith and excited to have a full week of practice with him this week ahead of the game against the Detroit Lions next week.

Though it was a bit of a slow burn once smith initially got into the game, the veteran QB eventually stopped checking the ball down on every pass play and opened up the passing attack a bit, throwing the ball downfield to his receivers. This is something that we haven’t seen much of in Washington this year, so if it can continue, that will be extremely encouraging.
No matter what the fans think, it appears that Captain Terry is all in on Smith for the time being, so that’s where our allegiance lies as well.
