Tablescape tips for a glamorous dinner party this New Year's Eve

As we get through Christmas and the festive season continues our thoughts turn to New Year's Eve, an opportunity to celebrate the year's achievements with those who matter to us the most. Whether your plans are big or small, staying in or going out, by adding a touch of glamour to the occasion you won’t go far wwrong.

During December we’ve had plenty of time to enjoy our Christmas scene, garlands and all. As wonderful as this addition has been to our homes, by now the tree may well have started drooping and the glitter seem slightly less sparkly. For this reason NYE is the perfect opportunity to revamp your space simply and stylishly by editing out louder yuletide decorations and adding in elegant alternatives.

Given the dining table is often the focus for bringing people together, it’s always a good idea to start here.

Using your current colour scheme as a platform to work from, drape a solid linen cloth over the table. Then, if you haven’t already, create a focal piece with greenery, such as pine, layered around candles in hurricane vases or alike. Set your crockery and cutlery neatly but not rigidly with cut glass - Soho Home do a fantastic selection to choose from. Use the space above the table to hang paper decorations among falling foliage. Finally use any spare space elsewhere around the home to create areas of interest, like pockets of scent with scented tealights - and you’ll be dazzling your guests before you know it.
