Second Sunderland McDonald's reveals plans to boost drive-thru facilities

Plans to boost drive-thru facilities at a Sunderland McDonald’s site have been lodged with planning bosses.

This week, the fast food giant submitted an application for its restaurant off Ryhope Road, in the Ryhope ward.

Plans include refurbishing the site and changes to the drive-thru lane and car park.

If approved, the new arrangement would allow ‘side-by-side’ ordering alongside new signs and customer order displays.

Earlier this week, McDonald’s closed all UK and Ireland sites in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to that, the chain had temporarily closed dine-in seating areas while offering takeaway, delivery and drive-thru options only.

Last week, McDonald’s also lodged an application to boost storage space and create an new drive-thru collection booth at its Silksworth restaurant.

A decision on the Ryhope site is expected by the end of May.

Comments on the plans can be made by writing to the city council by Tuesday, April 14.
