Searches take place 'in and around Nottinghamshire' after serious assault in Mapperley

Police investigating a serious assault in Mapperley say officers have 'continued searches in and around Nottinghamshire' as the case progresses.

Detective Inspector Parminder Dhillon, of Nottinghamshire Police, said "good progress is being made" - and provided an update on the investigation.

A man and woman were injured following the assault, in Pilkington Road, in the Mapperley area, at around 2pm on Wednesday, August 5.

Providing a condition check on the victims, DI Dhillon said: "It's still the same - the woman is in a stable condition, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."

The man, meanwhile, remains in a critical condition.

On Thursday night (August 6), police launched an appeal to find a man called Joseph Chattaway who they'd like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Officers are continuing the search for the man, who they believe may be in the Nottinghamshire area.

"All parties... the man and woman in hospital, and the person we're looking to speak to, they are all connected," said DI Dhillon.

"They are from within the same household. We are not looking for anybody else in connection with this.

"We are still pursuing a number of lines of inquiry, we have extra officers on over this weekend, they're conducting searches, they're providing reassurance patrols in the area and also assisting with the investigation.

"We are reacting to the results from the inquiries of the investigation and that's leading to new lines of inquiry that we've been pursuing over the weekend. So it's quite dynamic and those lines of inquiry are evolving as they're being pursued."

DI Dhillon said officers were concerned for the welfare of Chattaway, adding: "We urgently need to speak to him, as he'll assist us with our inquiries."

He said the public had been "hugely supportive so far this week".

A cordon remains in place at the scene.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the force on 101, quoting incident 330 of August 5, 2020.
