Scots boxer Ricky Burns looks set to end ring absence this September

Ricky Burns looks set to return to the ring in September – ending a 10 month absence for the Coatbridge boxer.

Burns, the only Scottish boxer ever to have held titles in three different weight divisions, has picked up wins in his last two bouts and defeated Scott Cardle last November.

The 36-year-old missed out on a place on the lucrative Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr undercard, according to manager Alex Morrison, and has yet to make a return to the ring.

Morrison has now revealed that Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has told Burns he will be fighting on September 27 with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Delighted Morrison told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “The date has been made so we’re happy to know Ricky is going to get back in the ring.

“He’s been out of action for a while so we’re happy that we have a date for him and can get things moving again.

“He’s been training and ready, we’re just waiting on all the details now.”
