Schefter: Jordan Reed’s career could be in jeopardy due to concussion issues

While Washington Redskins fans have spent the past several weeks waiting to hear the news that tight end Jordan Reed would return to action after suffering yet another concussion, ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced on Sunday morning that Reed’s career could be in jeopardy now.

Reed — who suffered a concussion in the third preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons — has already been ruled out of Monday night’s game against the Chicago Bears, but now Schefter is reporting that he may never return, and could retire instead.

According to Schefter:

There are those within the Redskins organization and around the league that are concerned Reed will not be able to play again, according to sources. Reed will continue to undergo testing, but the player, the team and doctors know what he is up against.

It is hard to say exactly how many concussions that Reed has suffered in his career, but there have been at least six on the record. Schefter says that Reed would like to continue playing football, but the longer it takes him to return from this injury, the less likely it is that he will see the field again.
