Robin van Persie cracks Mikel Arteta joke as he opens up on Arsenal relationship

Robin van Persie joked he loved playing with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta because he always passed him the ball.

Van Persie played alongside Arteta at Arsenal for just one season before the then Holland international joined Manchester United in 2012.

But in that time the duo forged a successful partnership, which Van Persie paid homage to when asked what kind of player Arteta was in a Twitter Q&A.

Van Persie joked: "Luckily he realised straight away that he had to pass all the balls to me, that's what I call a great player. First signs as a manager looks very promising!"

The Gunners take on Olympiakos, and Arteta has warned his young Gunners players will have to be at their best in what will be an intimidating match in Greece.

"It is part of the process," said Arteta. "You don't know [if they will be intimidated by the atmosphere] until you expose them.

"They can have the best intention but they need to go to a stadium like here and when they make a mistake or a bad decision, have the courage to try again and play again.

"And I want to see that in my players, whether they are 17 or 35. That's what I expect from them. If they keep trying, they have my full support.

"If they hide after that, I don't like it. But what I've seen up to now, every time they play on that field they are responding really, really well. That's what I am hoping and I am sure they will do it tomorrow."
