Ocean Beach (Australia) (AFP) - Australian rescuers battled Friday to refloat the last surviving pilot whales from a mass stranding that killed nearly 200 of the animals on a beach in Tasmania.

The whales were found stranded on the remote west coast of Australia's island state of Tasmania. A marine biologist said the dead animals would be tested for toxins that might explain the disaster.

Around 230 whales were stranded -- two years to the day since Australia's biggest whale stranding in the same harbour.

Two more whales have died in Australia after a handful that had been refloated a day earlier stranded themselves again.
