Report: Vikings trade with Trent Williams is off the table

Minnesota reportedly was interested in a trade for Redskins tackle Trent Williams, but now it appears that the team’s interest in the Pro Bowl tackle has dwindled.

According to Julie Donaldson, at NBC Sports Washington, the Vikings do not appear to have any interest in Williams at this time. Also NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the trade is off the table.

Also, Minnesota recently drafted an offensive tackle at No. 58, in the second round of the draft. Ezra Cleveland, out of Boise State, went to the Vikings there.

The Vikings offered a day three pick for Williams, per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, but nothing came to fruition with the deal then.

Donaldson reported that it is believed the 49ers still have interest in Williams.

Williams is tough for the Vikings to afford, but he’d be a big boost to an improving offensive line.

Despite Willliams’ talent, there is some concern surrounding him.

Pro Football Focus reported Williams was the highest-rated Redskins player on offense three consecutive seasons from 2016-18, and in 2019 he didn’t play. Per ESPN, Williams held out in 2019-20 after he said there was inadequate medical treatment involving a cancerous growth on his scalp. Later in the season, the Redskins failed him for his physical, according to ESPN.

The Redskins then put Williams on the reserve/non-football injury list after he was unable to play, due to helmet discomfort associated with the removed growth, NFL.com reported.
