Report: Dolphins to play international game in 2020, give up home game

The Miami Dolphins are set to head overseas once again in 2020 as a part of the NFL’s International Series. This news came in yesterday courtesy of a report from the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero, citing league sources in the know on the league’s future scheduling plans. The participation from the Dolphins will come at the expense of a home game in 2020 as well, tough news for season-ticket holders who will lose a game off their ticket package.

The details of the Dolphins’ participation are yet to be determined — including the opponent and the location. Miami could find themselves playing in the United Kingdom or Mexico.

This will mark the sixth time Miami has played outside the United States. The Dolphins played a preseason contest against the Denver Broncos in Mexico City in 1997 and four regular-season contests in the UK between 2007 and 2017.

Overseas games have not been kind to the Dolphins — Miami owns a 1-3 records in their four regular-season contests in the United Kingdom. Their only win came in 2014 against the Oakland Raiders (38-14). The Dolphins’ most recent appearance was a 20-0 snoozefest against the New Orleans Saints in 2017.
