Queen cancels Christmas at Sandringham as Omicron infection rates surge

The Queen has reportedly cancelled plans to travel to Sandringham for Christmas over Covid fears.

The monarch now plans to celebrate the festive holiday at Windsor, Mirror Online reports.

She traditionally spends the big day at her estate in Sandringham , Norfolk.

Royal sources say "the decision was a personal one after careful consideration and reflects a precautionary approach."

It comes as the new Omicron Covid variant sweeps across the UK, with experts warning of up to 6,000 deaths a day if the Government fails to act.
