Packers sign CB Parry Nickerson to 53-man roster

The Green Bay Packers added a cornerback to the 53-man roster on Monday.

GM Brian Gutekunst announced the signing of cornerback Parry Nickerson, a sixth-round pick of the New York Jets in 2018 who has also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Packers placed rookie linebacker Kamal Martin and cornerback Kabion Ento on injured reserve, opening up a roster spot for Nickerson.

The Jaguars released Nickerson, who was on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier in training camp, during final cutdowns.

Nickerson (5-10, 182) has played in 20 career NFL games. He has 27 career tackles, one pass breakup and one tackle for loss over 250 snaps on defense.

Nickerson played in all 16 games as a rookie with the Jets before being traded to the Seahawks at the end of training camp in 2019. He later signed with the Jaguars, playing four games with the team last season.

Nickerson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.32 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine, tying two others for the fastest time at the combine. He also posted a 33.5″ vertical leap and 10-0 broad jump and finished the three-cone drill in 7.31 seconds.

Although Nickerson is verifiably fast, his athletic profile suggests a shorter cornerback who doesn’t jump or change direction well.

The Jets made Nickerson the 179th overall pick in the 2018 draft.

In Green Bay, Nickerson will be the sixth cornerback behind Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Chandon Sullivan, Josh Jackson and Ka’dar Hollman.
