Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo won his second postseason award in as many days Thursday, receiving his first career Silver Slugger award.
Trumbo, who led the majors with 47 homers this past season, earned the Players Choice Award for American League Comeback Player of the Year on Wednesday.
In his first _ and possibly only _ season with the Orioles, the 30-year-old Trumbo set new career highs in nearly every offensive category, including homers, RBIs (108), slugging percentage (.533), runs (94), hits (157) and total bases (327).
Trumbo is the first Orioles player to win a Silver Slugger award since 2013, when three Orioles _ Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy and Adam Jones _ received the honor.
He was the third Orioles player to hit 40 or more homers in his first season with the team, joining Nelson Cruz (40 in 2014) and Frank Robinson (49 in 1966).
This was Trumbo's fourth season of at least 25 homers in parts of seven major league seasons, but is his first Silver Slugger award.
The Silver Slugger award is given to the best offensive players at every position in each league and is selected by a vote of major league managers and coaches.
Though he cooled considerably after the All-Star break, Trumbo's first half _ when he hit 28 homers and posted a .923 OPS in 87 games _ was a major reason the Orioles surged into first place in the AL East in the first half of the season.
The Orioles led the majors with 253 homers this past season and had six players with 20 or more homers. But Trumbo was the only Orioles player to receive a Silver Slugger this season.
Both first baseman Chris Davis (38 homers) and third baseman Manny Machado (37 homers) were strong candidates for the award, but neither won.
Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. won eight Silver Slugger awards, the most by an Orioles player.
Trumbo, who was acquired last offseason in what turned out to be a lopsided trade with the Seattle Mariners for backup catcher Steve Clevenger, is currently a free agent after one season with the Orioles.
The Orioles made Trumbo a one-year, $17.2 million qualifying offer, which will net them a compensatory draft pick if he declines the offer and signs elsewhere.
