About 120 defence force personnel are set to arrive at the Queensland-New South Wales border today to support Queensland police in their crackdown on "border hoppers".

Another 36 cases have been detected in the west of NSW with the "vast majority" infectious in the community. Authorities are warning a "critical time" is approaching.

Queensland will wait for new vaccination modelling, taking into account the thousands of COVID-19 cases across the country, before it commits to opening up.
