The latest release of the Nike LeBron 16 will pay homage to LeBron James’ favorite TV show, Martin. The sneakers are expected to drop in a purple and yellow colorway. They will also include crimson laces and feature Nike lettering on the side that matches the fonts used in the show’s opening credits. The Martin inspiration was confirmed in the comments of the Instagram post below by LeBron’s friend, Frankie Walker.
“Definitely Martin inspired,” Walker said. “Was gonna let y’all figure it out lol.”
The TV series, Martin, aired for five seasons on Fox from 1992-97. It starred Martin Lawrence along with Tisha Campbell, Carl Anthony Payne II, Thomas Mikal Ford, Tichina Arnold, Garrett Morris and Jon Gries. Set in Detroit, Michigan, Lawrence plays Martin Payne, a disc jockey for the fictional radio station WZUP. LeBron has posted in the past on Twitter that Martin was his favorite TV series.
While there has not been a release date officially announced for this sneaker, there is a Nike LeBron 16 Court Purple/Tour Yellow shoe listed for April 16 on Foot Locker’s release calendar. According to Sole Collector, this could be referring to the Martin‘s shown above in the Instagram post.
