Mum on ‘healing trip’ after losing husband dies in tragic cliff plunge

A mum who went on a 'healing trip' after losing her husband tragically died when she plunged from a cliff.

Jamie Redmond Baker, also known as Nicole, was visiting the Hawaii island of Maui with her three-year-old daughter.

The 37-year-old, from Louisville, was hiking in an area known as  “Chutes and Ladders” when she fell around 75ft to her death on Thursday, July 25.

Nicole, who was climbing along the rocky shoreline, fell at around 11:30am.

The mum had lost her husband, Lonnie, two years ago and had reportedly started going to Hawaii to 'heal'.

Although there are no reports of the child being injured, it is now known if her daughter was with her at the time.

After rescuers found her, she was airlifted to a nearby highway where paramedics attempted to save her life.

Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene, reports the New York Post .

A friend of Nicole's wrote on Facebook : "This was healing vacation for her and her small child. RIP Nicole."

Nicole had reportedly started visiting Hawaii with her young daughter after her husband died in 2017.

The Chutes and Ladders area where Nicole had been hiking is described as an "off-grid adventure" on the Western coast of Maui island.

It is reportedly recommended for expert free climbers and features a sheer rock face over a natural ocean pool.
