Multiple fire crews battle 'deliberate' blaze at a derelict pub in Newport

Multiple fire crews have been at the scene of a 'deliberate' blaze at a derelict pub in Newport.

Crews were called to The Friendship Inn near Ringland Circle at Hendre Farm Drive, where they spent hours working to extinguish the fire.

Pictures taken by Sam Wright show at least three fire crews were in attendance on Monday afternoon, and a crane was used to keep the fire under control.

The Open Hearth Pub - which is also derelict - is on the same road and has been beset with issues since closing for good at the beginning of last year. As well as having suffered multiple fires, the site has become rife with fly-tipping and illegal dumping. You can read more about the issues at the site here.

Residents took to social media on Monday to voice their concerns that regular fires at the Friendship Inn could follow.

"Multiple crews attended the scene and worked to extinguish the fire. A stop message was received at 8:39pm."
