Met office warning for Liverpool with 50mph gales and torrential rain

Liverpool is experiencing a washout this weekend with torrential rain hitting the region in time for Halloween.

Families heading out to go trick-or-treating on Sunday will need to have their coats and umbrellas at the ready, with heavy downpours set to continue into this evening.

And it's not the last of the wet and blustery weather, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for wind on Monday.

The weather warning covers Liverpool and Wirral from just after midnight on Monday until 10am that morning.

It is expected to cause travel disruption in some areas including delays on roads across the region and to public transport.

New Brighton is set to be battered by 50mph winds on Monday, with forecasters predicting coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

The Met Office forecast for the North West on Sunday said: "Heavy rain at first, accompanied by strong and gusty winds, will clear east through the morning.

"A brief brighter interlude will follow, before more showery rain returns from the west through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

"Further showers, merging into longer spells of rain, throughout the evening and overnight. After a bit of a lull, winds strengthening through the night, with coastal gales developing. Minimum temperature 7 °C."

The Met Office forecast for Monday said: " A wet and windy start with coastal gales during the morning.

"Becoming brighter, but remaining showery into the afternoon, though winds easing a touch. Generally on the cool side. Maximum temperature 11 °C."
